While smartphones have been heralded as the coming of the next generation of communication and collaboration, they are a step backwards when it comes to personal security, anonymity and privacy.
Guardian Project creates easy to use secure apps, open-source software libraries, and customized solutions that can be used around the world by any person looking to protect their communications and personal data from unjust intrusion, interception and monitoring.
Whether your are an average person looking to affirm your rights or an activist, journalist or humanitarian organization looking to safeguard your work in this age of perilous global communication, we can help address the threats you face.
At a high level, it is easy say that “we know nothing”. We do not log data or include analytics in our websites or applications. When we do operate servers to support our applications, they are configured to store as minimal data as possible, usually just a username and password, if that is required. We also only recommend third party services, such as XMPP services, VoIP services, or Proxy and VPN providers, who abide by these same policies.
In some cases, when we must distribute our applications through services like Google Play, our hands our tied and you are at the mercy of their terms and policies. In some cases, convenience trumps privacy, but that is a decision that is up to you. You can always get our apps from our no logging, non-tracking, free and open-source app store, F-Droid.
Otherwise, you can read on below for our general purpose policy around data usage and protection policies.
This policy discloses the practices for Guardian Project’s website and all apps and projects we release. It will notify you of the following:
-
What personally identifiable information is collected from you through the web site, our apps and services, and how it is used and with whom it may be shared.
-
What choices are available to you regarding the use of your data.
-
The security procedures in place to protect the misuse of your information.
-
How you can correct any inaccuracies in the information.

Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way. You can verify this by looking for a closed lock icon at the bottom of your web browser, or looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the web page.
While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, billing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers in which we store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment.
